Making time for…

In my last post I wrote about time and making time to do more of what brings me joy.

After taking a life changing step last month, I have been focusing on using my time intentionally. I take time to think and practice self-love.

Reflecting during this time has allowed me dig deeper, get out of my comfort and at times, take risks. I have managed to refocus my attention to what really matters and enjoy simple moments.

Here are just a few of those practices that are making my life fuller and much more joyous.

Time with Family/Friends

I’m particularly grateful for the time I have been fortunate enough to spend with my siblings. I am especially thankful for my little sister. She has been working hard and is deeply committed to her sobriety. I have made a conscious effort to meet with friends I care about. These are the friends who genuinely care for me. I love hosting them in my home, cooking and making cocktails for them. Also love hosting karaoke nights where everyone relaxes and enjoys singing their favorite songs.

Follow my marathon training

I’m doing my 10th marathon in a couple of weeks. I have managed to stay consistent and follow a training program. This is something I haven’t done for the last few marathons.

Volunteering

I started volunteering for Friends of El Salvador. This is a non-profit organization. It is dedicated to improving the lives of families in communities near where I was born.

Update professional docs

I’ve always wanted to put together a professional portfolio and I have finally done it! I have asked friends to help me with an updated bio. They are also providing other documents typically requested when searching for a new job.

Research

One of my long-term goals has been to do consulting work. I have started researching what this will take and how I can get there. This has included meeting with friends who have started their own businesses. They understand what it takes to get started. I have also created options for potential names for a creative services agency and asked friends for feedback.

Writing

I have been doing more writing. Not always posting everything I write but trying to be better about it.

Home projects

I have made time to work on projects I been wanting to do since I purchased my home. I managed to finish Gael’s new room and working on mine!

Xmas lights

I made time to put up colorful Christmas lights this year. Last year I didn’t and Gael was disappointed. I didn’t disappoint him this year.

Cooking

I have been spending more time in my kitchen and cooking.

Discovered new music

I have been taking the time to listen to new artists and enjoying lyrics.

Joined a running group

I started joining a running group for evening runs. This is a big deal for me because it’s something I’ve never put the effort in trying.

Be more open to new experiences/people

This isn’t always easy for me specially when it comes to dating. I am trying to change this and be more open to going outside my comfort.

Chill time at home

It has always been a struggle for me to relax and have days when I don’t do anything. I have learned this is due to my ADHD. I always feel I have to keep busy. Lately I have managed to just relax and like Gael’s says “just chill.” Gael loves when we just stay at home, watch movies and eat unhealthy snacks. I love when he reminds me to just relax and stop to just do nothing next to him.
