My favorite gift after Gael was born came from a boss that became a great friend! Kelly, a mom of two boys, came by to visit me and brought me an unexpected gift. The gift she brought didn’t include any gifts for the baby. Instead, everything was for me. She included a few items to ease breastfeeding, drinks to make sure I was hydrating while doing it, and snacks. She said, “because there will be times you will forget to eat.” This was by far the most thoughtful gesture and one I never forget.
That gesture always stayed with me. I try to do the same for family and friends who include me in their celebration. I began to make what I like to call “New Mom/Dad Emergency Kit.” These have become my favorite gifts to put together specially for new Moms. I try my best to personalize each gift. I also aim to create something that fits the new parent’s personality and taste buds.
The kits include items I found useful as a new mom and musts to keep nearby in case of emergencies. The kits can be great to keep in the car or kid-friendly office spaces. With each kit, I include a note that’s like a guide with a short explanation about each item. I write the note to share my thought process. I also explain why each item is useful for the new parent.

Any time I’ve gifted a kit, I’ve received such positive feedback. I thought this is a good little side hustle idea. Something I do for others wanting to give a gift that stands out from the rest. A gift that not only makes their loved one feel special but can be useful for a while.
So I’m writing this to ask YOU if this is something would be consider you gifting someone in your life. In my research, I have not found anything that comes close to it. I’m curious if this is a good opportunity for me to offer it.
Leave a comment below if you would get one for a friend!
I asked some of those I gifted a kit if they would share their thoughts. I wanted to know if they liked the kit and what it meant for them.
Here’s a few that shared their thoughts:
